Welcome to NeedleLot Designs! 🌸

If handmade creativity makes you happy, you're in the right place!

Hi, I’m Iris, creator of NeedleLot Designs! I'm the designer behind all the patterns you find in my shop!

I began creating cross stitch patterns a number of years ago when I was looking for a new way to channel my creativity. I’ve always loved the look of pixel art, and when my mom introduced me to cross stitch, everything just fell into place!

Cross stitch design began for me in my student room while I was studying Art History, and it carried on into the years after, when I was teaching Architectural History at university. I’ve always had a love for pretty things, and I like to think my education helped nurture that, even if it wasn’t technically an art degree. Fun fact: I did apply to art school and got rejected, but thankfully that didn’t damage my creative bone! 🦴

Over the years, I’ve shaped NeedleLot Designs into what it is today. As I grew into myself and figured out what truly makes me happy, my style naturally took shape. It turns out I’m drawn to lots of tiny critters, bright colors, and designs that feel quirky and full of personality!

Made from Scratch

100% designed and stitched by hand 🪡

I always take care to create the best-quality charts possible. Every NeedleLot Designs pattern is meticulously designed, checked by me, and always test-stitched. I work with dedicated test stitchers who help me stitch and review each design before it's published!

All the photos you see in my shop are genuine (taken by me with my trusty Nikon camera! 📸), showing either my own stitching, or projects stitched by a test stitcher. This ensures that what you see is what you get! When taking and editing these photos, I also work hard to match colors as closely as possible on screen.

I strictly avoid any and all automated conversions and renderings in my charts, and I never use AI in my design process. All my patterns are created with care, from start to finish, and shopping with me means supporting an independent artist creating patterns by hand 🫶

My Workspace ☀️

  • Our house

If you follow me online, you may catch the occasional glimpse of my workspace. We live in a house built in the mid-17th century, with many of the original beams and walls still intact. I’m lucky to have a beautiful large window (with a heavy green wooden door!) and an oculus that give me plenty of sunshine! The wall does crumble when you look at it too hard, but it’s a small price to pay for so much character.

  • My desk

My desk is where all the magic happens! I create designs, stitch, and check colors here. The white surface of my desk also frequently doubles as a backdrop for photos. Many cups of tea are consumed here daily, brought to me by my trusty tea guy (boyfriend). And on the rare day off, this space also gets used for reading, gaming, and napping.

  • Supplies & storage

Behind me is where I store my floss, patterns, and frames. My floss storage may appear tidy, but it's actually quite chaotic, with minimal real organization (I dream of bobbin boxes sorted by color, but alas). With a steady turnover of new projects, this is the system that seems to work best for me. Having a cupboard like this also gives me an excuse to display some finished pieces!

About Me

I live with my long-term partner, Orson, in the very northern tip of the Netherlands in a city called Groningen. We met while studying here; he’s originally from England, but he decided to stick around, and I’m very glad he did.

In my free time, I enjoy reading, writing, gaming, and cooking plant-based meals. I have a few favorite comfort movies that I keep returning to (The Addams Family, Matilda), and I love anything and everything to do with animals. During vacation, Orson and I like hopping across Europe by train to explore new cities and nature. In the future, we want to welcome a rescue animal into our home.

Some quirks about me: even though I love the taste of coffee, I can’t handle it very well, and I’m an absolute sriracha fiend. I also play the guitar (though not very frequently anymore) and I have dreams of creating my own video game or writing a novel someday.

NeedleLot Designs has been my full-time job since 2024, and I absolutely love it. I’m grateful every day that I get to pursue my dreams! Thank you so much for being here and for supporting me, it truly means the world to me! 💖
